Where will the reception take place?

Depending on your numbers the reception will take place in one of three areas - Wardroom for up to 20 guests, Half Deck for up to 60 guests, or Gun Deck for up to 288 guests.

For those who are looking for a small and intimate reception, not exceeding twenty, the Wardroom provides the ideal location where you can dine in style and elegance reminiscent of that enjoyed by the ship's officers in 1860.

The Half Deck offers a magnificent setting for slightly larger numbers. Here up to sixty o two tables of thirty may share the memorable experience of dining in the sheltered atmosphere of the officer's quarters, surrounded by beautifully restored cabins and an armoury of rifles, pistols and cutlasses.

For the larger reception - up to 200 - the massive Gun Deck will fulfil your ambition to celebrate your wedding in unique and unforgettable surroundings.

Here your guests will sit at mess tables set between the broadside guns, absorbing the magical aura of a deck steeped in history where six hundred Victorian sailors worked, ate and slept.

What time can the reception start and when do we have to leave the ship?

Since the ship is open to the public until 1730 most days ( 1700 from November until February) and the caterers and ship's staff require sufficient time after closing to prepare for your reception, it is normally not possible for the reception to begin before 1830 and sometimes 1900.

However these times are open to discussion and depend on the ship's programme for the particular day in question. All guests should be clear of the ship by midnight.

Can we have a reception immediately following a ceremony?

In law a civil marriage ceremony has to be completed by 1800 and in our case the Registrars have specified that the latest they are prepared to conduct a ceremony on board is 1715 - this can then be followed by the reception starting at around 1830.
