As part of the celebration to mark the 30th Anniversary of the return of HMS Warrior 1860 to Portsmouth, the theme for this year’s spring talk will be interpretation and the Trust’s work in preserving and presenting Warrior.

  • Dr Louise Moon BA (Hons) MA PhD, Warrior’s Activity Director, has an in-depth knowledge of naval history, with her research focussed on the life of the sailor inside and outside of the dockyard gate. Her presentation will inform you of the work being done to bring Warrior to life for modern audiences and how this continues the “spell” inspired by our benefactor, Sir John Smith.
  • Commander Tim Ash, Chief Executive and Captain HMS Warrior, will then update you on the current Heritage Lottery Fund work to preserve the original fabric of this fine ship.

In conclusion, we are privileged to be permitted a windscreen tour by coach of the Royal Naval Base, viewing today’s Navy and the heritage environment. Our guide will be Mr Dennis Miles who worked in the dockyard for over 45 years, latterly with BAE Systems, and who will share with us his working experience and historical knowledge.
