To help with planning and preparation, we strongly recommend that teachers make a FREE preliminary visit to the Historic Dockyard and HMS Warrior 1860. This is a chance for you to familiarise yourself with the layout of the ship and facilities on site, plan your work and prepare your risk assessment. To obtain free entry, you will need to bring proof of your teacher status and book in at the Visitor Centre. If you would like to meet with a member of the Learning Team during your planning visit, please contact us on 02392 778609 or email learning@hmswarrior.org to make an appointment.
Visitor with disabilities or specials needs are most welcome onboard Warrior - More information can be found on the Access for All page.
You should allow at least 1 hour for a self-guided Discovery Visit to HMS Warrior 1860. We suggest having a task for pupils to complete to focus their attention. We have a selection of trail sheets suitable for Key Stages 1 - 3; please contact a member of our Learning Team on 023 9277 8609 to discuss what is available.
Our workshops are generally offered Tuesday-Thursday, morning and afternoon. If you would like to book a workshop for a Monday or Friday, please contact us to discuss availability.
Learning staff from HMS Warrior 1860 will lead the workshop you have booked and prepare any additional activities for you. The behaviour of pupils remains the responsibility of teachers and group leaders. Workshops work best when teachers and group leaders participate in the activities.
Teachers and group leaders are responsible for pupils during self-led "discovery" visits to the ship. Pupils should remain with their group leader at all times and be closely supervised whilst on board.
Teachers and other accompanying adults receive free admittance within these ratios.
If you fail to provide supervision at these levels for your group, you may be refused entry to the site or attractions.
